Diponegoro University (UNDIP) Real Work Lecture (KKN) students successfully held training on making Ecoenzym as an alternative for managing organic waste from household waste which was held on July 20 2024 at Posyandu Kartini Dukuh Beji.

Ranina Salsabila, UNDIP KKN Team II 2023/2024 student from the Chemistry Department, opened the event which was enthusiastically welcomed by the PKK women. Ranina conveyed the importance of Ecoenzym in managing organic waste, especially for other methods of processing organic waste which so far has only been used as animal feed or simply thrown away by residents.

In the process of making Ecoenzym, you only need molasses/sugar, kitchen waste such as vegetables, fruit peels, spices (onions, lemongrass, chilies), and water with the ratio used for each ingredient being 1:3:10 and the container used is a gallon from one of the drinking water brands. Ranina asked 2 PKK women to become participants and then explained how to make it. In the initial stage, the prepared ingredients are all put in gallons in the proportions previously explained . Then, the ladies were explained how to maintain Ecoenzym during 3 months of fermentation.

One of the PKK cadres, Mrs Naning, hopes that from this activity the knowledge of PKK members will increase and help reduce kitchen waste. “After this training activity, it is hoped that mothers can do it at home to help protect the environment,” he said. It is hoped that mothers who have a hobby of gardening will be helped by education regarding the manufacture of this Ecoenzyme which can be used as a natural fertilizer and pesticide.
