We proudly extend our congratulations to the students of the Chemistry Study Program at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Diponegoro University (Undip), for their remarkable achievement in the national Agricultural Food Competition (AFC). Through their hard work, dedication, and exceptional innovation, the team consisting of David Prasetya (24030121120031), Ira Afrilia (24030121120026), Wahyu Dwi Nugraha (24030121140178), and Feodora (24030122140169) successfully secured 3rd Place in the Scientific Paper category. This achievement was made possible with the guidance and support of their advisor, Nor Basid Adiwibawa P, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D.
The competition, held at Jenderal Soedirman University, took place from January 14, 2023 (abstract selection) to February 23, 2023 (final round). The team competed fiercely, starting from the abstract selection stage, which involved 30 teams (±120 participants), to advancing to the final round, which included 10 teams (±40 participants). This accomplishment demonstrates the high quality and relevance of the scientific work produced by the team in addressing global issues.
Title and Background of the Scientific Paper
The title of the scientific paper presented by the team is “Development of Biodegradable Food Packaging Material from Chitosan-Pectin of Robusta Coffee Husk with Methyl Red Indicator for Detecting Beef Spoilage”. This work addresses environmental issues related to plastic waste, which is the second-largest contributor to pollution (19.53%). Synthetic plastic-based food packaging, which is difficult to decompose, has become a serious global problem. Through this research, the team developed a chitosan-pectin-based edible film that is not only environmentally friendly but also equipped with a smart label to detect beef spoilage.
This innovation aligns with the concept of Smart Society 5.0, which emphasizes a balance between technological innovation and environmental sustainability. By developing biodegradable packaging, the team not only provides a solution to environmental problems but also has the potential to position Indonesia as a global leader in eco-friendly packaging innovation.
Research Objective
The main objective of this research is to synthesize and identify the potential use of chitosan-pectin-based edible film as an alternative environmentally friendly food packaging material in Indonesia. Thus, this research is expected to reduce reliance on conventional plastics and support efforts to mitigate environmental pollution.
Appreciation and Hope
This achievement is a testament to the dedication, teamwork, and exceptional guidance of the advisor. We extend our gratitude to Nor Basid Adiwibawa P, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. for his guidance and support to the student team. May this achievement inspire other students to continue innovating and contributing to the field of science.
Once again, congratulations to David Prasetya, Ira Afrilia, Wahyu Dwi Nugraha, and Feodora for this proud accomplishment. May this scientific work continue to be developed and provide tangible benefits to society and the environment. Keep up the great work and continue to inspire the younger generation of Indonesia!
Cheers to Achievements!
