Antonia Anetha Binar Bulan, a chemistry student from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics at Diponegoro University (Undip), has achieved an outstanding accomplishment by winning the title of Indonesia Jamu Ambassador 2024. This fifth-semester student, who enrolled in 2022, successfully outperformed other participants in the prestigious event held at the Westin Resort Bali on December 16-17, 2024.
The Indonesia Jamu Ambassador competition, organized by the Jamu Council, aims to find a figure capable of promoting Indonesian herbal medicine to the international stage. Bulan’s victory was largely attributed to her innovative research on antibacterial packaging to maintain the safety and quality of herbal medicine for a longer shelf life. This research impressed the panel of judges and became a key factor in her triumph.
Rigorous Selection Process
The competition spanned two days with various evaluation stages. On the first day, participants underwent written tests and interviews assessing their in-depth knowledge of herbal medicine and public speaking skills. From this stage, the top ten participants were selected to advance to the next round.
On the second day, the selection process became even more stringent. Finalists had to present their projects and answer questions from the judges with precision. Only three participants advanced to the final round, where Bulan emerged as the first-place winner.
Thorough Preparation
Bulan’s success was supported by her mentors, including Dr. dr. Renni Yuniati, Sp.DVE., M.H.; Prof. Dr. Bambang Cahyono; and Prof. Dr. Meyni Susery. With their guidance, Bulan was able to present brilliant ideas that captivated the judges. In addition to her innovative research, her public speaking skills and extensive knowledge of herbal medicine solidified her victory.
Hopes and Aspirations
As Indonesia’s Jamu Ambassador, Bulan has a grand vision. She aims to bring Indonesian herbal medicine to the international stage and expand public education about herbal medicine domestically. With her newly earned title, Bulan is determined to be a representative of Indonesia who can elevate the status of herbal medicine globally.
This event demonstrates that Indonesia’s younger generation, like Bulan, possesses great potential to innovate and preserve cultural heritage while also elevating the nation’s name on a global scale. This achievement is expected to inspire other students to continue creating and contributing to Indonesia’s progress.
