To support the preservation and utilization of traditional herbal beverages, a team of lecturers from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University, organized a community service program entitled “Training on Making Wedang Uwuh in Teabag Packaging as a Traditional Herbal Drink Rich in Benefits to Boost Immunity.” The activity was carried out in collaboration with the PKK women’s group of RT 05 RW 01, Tembalang Subdistrict, Tembalang District, Semarang City.
The community service team was chaired by Alvin Romadhoni, P.H., S.Si., M.Si., as the program coordinator, with members Prof. Dr. Dwi Hudiyanti, M.Sc., Dra. Enny Fachriyah, M.Si., and Muhammad Badrul Huda. The program was designed to raise awareness of the importance of utilizing herbal plants, particularly wedang uwuh, as a traditional beverage that provides health benefits and supports the immune system.
During the counseling session, participants received knowledge on the nutritional content, health benefits, and economic potential of processing wedang uwuh. In the training session, they had the opportunity to directly practice how to prepare wedang uwuh in a hygienic and attractive teabag form with added market value.
The program was warmly welcomed by participants. “We are very happy to learn how to make wedang uwuh in teabag packaging, because besides being beneficial for family health, it can also become a home-based business opportunity,” said one of the PKK members who joined the training.
Through this initiative, the community is expected to be more motivated to preserve traditional beverages while developing them into products of economic value.
