Trengganu (28/7), Department of Chemsitry, Diponegoro University payed official visit to the Institute of Marine Biotechnology, Malaysian Univesity of Trengganu (IMB UMT) in the span of 4 days from 28 to 31 of July 2019. The visit covered several agenda, including a collaborative UNDIP-IMB UMT seminar, workshop, laboratory visit and the signing of LOI of both universities. Being the first agenda, the collaborative seminar presented speakers from both universities: Dr. Dwi Hudiyanti, M.Sc and Dr. Meiny Suzery, M.Si of Department of Chemistry, Diponegoro University and other two speakers Prof. Dr. Fadzilah Adibah Abdul Majid and Dr. Yossie Andriani HS of the UMT. Dr. Dwi Hudiyanti, M.Sc presented her paper entitled “Natural Phospholipids for Drug Delivery”, while Dr. Meiny Suzery, M.Si presented her paper entitled “Pharmacological Importance of Leaf Hyptis pectinata Against Malaria, Pathogenic Bacteria and Cancer”. As for the second agenda, NMR and HPTLC workshop hosted by Desy Fitria Syamsumir and Siti Aisha Mohd Razi from IMB UMT followed by laboratory visit.
Other than the above-mentioned agenda, the essential purpose of the visit was an agreement and cooperation in coursework activities for both undergraduate and postgraduate program. One of those agreement to be initiated was the one month-length minicourses program (sit in) for undergraduate students of both universities, as well as student exchange. These programs are expected to boost opportunities for students of both campuses, to open door to vast experience and strong networking worldwide. Other points of cooperation includes industrial visit, internship and students’ research project in addition to the previously mentioned programs.
Annual meeting is to be scheduled to review and evaluate the undertaking of the joint-programs. The cooperation of both universities is expected to continue for years to come and to result success in international projects, continuous courses and to advance to other joint-projects. The cooperative agreement with universities overseas is solid evidence and recognition of the quality of Three Pillars of Higher Education that comprises Education, Research and Community Service), in the Department of Chemistry, Diponegoro University.
